Going into last nights game the Mission City Outlaws had a record of 0-3-1 on home ice this season and were looking to right the ship against the powerhouse Grandview Steelers.
This was the first meeting of the season between the two clubs and there was a definite feeling out process early on in this contest. There was no scoring between the teams for the first 13 minutes and for the first time in 3 games the Outlaws did not open the scoring. Grandview would find the back of the net twice in the opening frame and would head to the dressing room with a 2-0 lead.
Early in the second period the Steelers would extend their lead to 3-0 on a power play goal by Cam Seto. That would be Seto’s second of the night for Grandview. Mission would finally find an answer and it would be Cameron Bertsch who gets the Outlaws on the board. Then shortly thereafter the Outlaws would strike again off the stick of Jonathan Philley and put Mission City within one at the break.
In the third the Grandview Steelers appeared to be too much for the Outlaws to handle and Mission City would quickly find themselves in some penalty trouble. This would start to take a toll on the momentum for the Outlaws. The Steelers displayed why they are tied for first overall in the PJHL with their great defensive work making it hard for Mission City to get anything going offensively. With the score well in favour of the Steelers, Philley would get his second of the game with just over 3 minutes left. But it was to little too late and the Outlaws drop the game by a final score of 6-3.
The Outlaws will now have a entire week to try and put this game in the past and work hard to fix some things that are keeping this team from breaking out and sending an example to the rest of the league that they are going to be the team to beat this season.
The next game is next Thursday October 17, 2013 at 7:15pm at the Mission Leisure Centre when the Outlaws host the Ridge Meadows Flames. Should be a great game and have a big impact in the standings.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
