Thursday night the Mission City Outlaws hosted the Delta Ice Hawks at the Mission Leisure Centre. The game had all the makings of a great tilt between these 2 teams and for the most part this game lived up to the hype.
The Ice Hawks opened the scoring in this one with a power play goal from Marc Letourneau as he wrist one on the short side on Will Latimer. In the late stages of the period, the Delta Ice Hawks found themselves in some penalty trouble. The Hawks would give a 2 man advantage to the Outlaws and David McGowan would spin in the slot and rip one past Alex Ahnert for his second of the year and tied things up. Then on the ensuing power play the newcomer Josh Pollock would pounce on a loose puck in the crease and that would give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead at the end of the opening frame.
The Ice Hawks would come out hard to start the second. Mission City would try and do everything in their power to try and hold their lead and in the process took a few penalties themselves. On the man advantage, Letourneau would pot his second of the game and tie things up. Then in the final minutes of the middle stanza the Ice Hawks would get another and they would take a 3-2 lead into the locker room.
In the final frame, the Outlaws seemed to be a little flat footed to start and the Ice Hawks would get a quick goal making it 4-2. Then a short while later Delta would get their 5th goal of the game with 7:40 left to go. On another power play for the Outlaws, Kyle Lennea would make it a 5-3 score. Late stages, the Outlaws would find themselves in penalty trouble again and they were not able to rally back in this one and fall to 3-8-2-1 on the season with a final score of 5-3.
Still a lot of work ahead of Mission City but you can see the signs of the players starting to buy in. It was a battle of the man advantage as both teams were 3 for 6 on the PP tonight.
The next game for the Outlaws is a trip to the Aldergrove Community Arena on Wednesday night to take on the Kodiaks with a 7:15pm puck drop.
Also stay tuned to the blog the next day or two for all the information on the newest acquisitions that the team will announce.
