On Thursday night the Mission City Outlaws played host to the Port Moody Panthers where the Outlaws have had there struggles this season at the Mission Leisure Centre.
This may have been one of the better team efforts from the Outlaws and it was very evident in the opening minutes of this game as the Outlaws controlled most of the play and the ice definitely seemed pretty tilted in the favour of the home town squad. This was no more evident than when the Outlaws opened the scoring on a goal from Brody Dyck who had the puck find its way to his stick and a yawning cage awaited the shot from Dyck to make it 1-0 after the first period.
In the second, the 2 teams had a little bit of a sloppy start, it was the Outlaws who would get the middle frames only goal and it was Colby Steen who potted his 4th of the season with a great wrist shot that was bound and determined to rip to the back of the net. Outlaws would take a 2-0 lead going into the final frame.
Much like the second period the third started off a little sloppy and both teams shared early scoring chances but it was the Outlaws who would start to get there legs back under them and they scored 2 quick goals before the middle mark of the period off the stick’s of David McGowan and Brody Dyck. The 4th goal was Dyck’s second of the night. Late stages of the final period and the Outlaws found themselves in some penalty trouble. The old saying if you play with fire, you’re going to get burned rang true and Kurt Sonne would finally solve Goaltender Jeff Veitch. The Outlaws would not give anymore to the Panthers and the game would end 4-1.
This win may be just what the doctor ordered for this Mission City team as they go into a very tough building tonight in Abbotsford to take on the red hot Pilots at 7:30 pm.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
