Thursday night marked just the 3rd time this season the Abbotsford Pilots and the Mission City Outlaws have met this season. The 2 rival clubs have had some very entertaining games thus far and last night was no different.
The Outlaws came into the game leading the season series with a record of 1-0-1 looking to improve on that and also have another good showing against a divisional opponent. Both the Pilots and the Outlaws were coming into the contest on a 3 game losing skid so you knew something had to give.
Late stages of regulation, the Outlaws found themselves trailing by a goal and a great effort from Bryce Pisiak forcing the puck through the Pilots defence and to the goal mouth. With Pilots goaltender Will Latimer down and out and the puck laying on the goal line, Bakshi Gill would chip it past the Abbotsford Goalie and send this game to OT. Late stages of the first overtime, Josh Pollock would get called for charging but the Outlaws were able to get to the conclusion of the extra frame unscathed. The first overtime period solved nothing. Second overtime begins with the Outlaws still having to kill off the Pollock penalty and the Pilots would make good on their 8th power play of the game and defeat the Outlaws by a final score of 4-3.
It didn’t take long for the rivalry to get going as both teams took advantage of getting in good clean hits on their opponents. The Outlaws, for the second game in a row, gave more man advantages to their opposition. Mission City was 0-3 on the power play and Abbotsford was 2-8. Hard to get momentum when killing so many penalties but Mission City did a good job staying stride for stride with Abbotsford and 5 on 5 were the better team.
The Mission City Outlaws put a 2 point cushion between themselves and the Port Moody Panthers and will be looking to extend that on Saturday when the Outlaws make their second and final visit to the Harry Jerome Recreation Centre in North Vancouver to take on the Wolf Pack. 7 PM puck drop.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
