It will mark the final game played of 2013 for both the Mission City Outlaws and the Richmond Sockeyes tonight when the 2 teams meet at the Mission Leisure Centre. The Christmas break is over and now is the time for the Outlaws to create some separation in the Harold Brittain Conference cellar.
The Outlaws suffered a disappointing loss on the last game before the break in Abbotsford against the Pilots 8 days ago and are currently on a 6 game losing skid. Mission City sits just 1 point ahead of the last place Port Moody Panthers for the final playoff spot and really need to put their game into second gear. The Sockeyes have been red hot as of late, winners of 8 straight and currently sit 2nd overall in the PJHL with 43 points so this will not be an easy task for the Mission City Outlaws.
The last time these 2 teams met was back on November 30th where the Sockeyes laid a spanking on the Outlaws by a final score of 9-3. Needless to say the Outlaws organization was not happy with this result and needed to make a change and that is exactly what Mission City did immediately following that game. It will be a little bit of a different looking team since the Sockeyes saw the Outlaws last.
Who to watch for:
Mission City – Josh Pollock – Pollock has been great lately trying to spark his team by laying the big hits and creating scoring chances. This has not gone unnoticed by the opposition and Pollock has been on the radar each shift he’s out there.
Richmond – Liam Lawson – Lawson has been a huge thorn in the side of the Mission City Outlaws in the 2 meetings this season registering 6 points in the 2 games.
There is just too much fire power to ignore on the Richmond Sockeyes so the best bet for success tonight for the Outlaws would have to be to utilize the point man as much as possible and create as much traffic in front on the Richmond Goaltender.
