The final meeting of the regular season will be played tonight between the Mission City Outlaws and the Delta Ice Hawks and although the Ice Hawks have a 3-0 season series lead, each game has been very close and very entertaining.
In the 3 games, the Ice Hawks outscored the Outlaws 10-6. Special teams has played a big factor in the previous meetings with Delta going 5 for 14 on the power play and Mission is 4 for 15.
It will be a reunion of sorts as Jeff Penman and Dakota Klassen will make their return to face their old Outlaws club tonight for just the first time since joining the Ice Hawks. Penman has 1 point in 8 games with Delta with 18 penalty minutes and Klassen has 3 points in 7 games with 12 minutes in penalties.
The Outlaws have had their struggles as of late trying to find some scoring as the team has not scored more than 2 goals in their last 4 contests. The coaching staff will be looking up and down the bench to see which guy is going to step up and carry the play to set the tone.
Who to watch for:
Mission City – Brody Dyck – Dyck may just be that player that could carry this team on his back. Brody has 2 goals in the last month on paper but its the other things he does to create chances that make him a huge asset for the Outlaws to have success.
Delta – Mak Barden – The PJHL’s leading scorer from 2012-13 season is back to join the Delta Ice Hawks after a 33 game stint with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL.
It’s a new year and with it comes an opportunity to make a push for the post season. The question is, who is going to step up and carry this team through the final 15 games or will it be a flurry of scoring by the entire hockey club? Time will tell.
