Weekly Wrap Up “Things Get Interesting”

Instead of a post game write up each and every game, I figured I would just provide a weekly wrap up of the week that was for the Mission City Outlaws and it also gives me an opportunity to not sound too repetitive.  Now without further adieu.  I present the “Weekly Wrap Up”.

It was a 2 game week for the Mission City Outlaws as they started the week hosting the Ridge Meadows Flames at the Mission Leisure Centre.  This was a big divisional game between the 2 clubs and the Outlaws, for my money, did everything right except being able to solve a hot goaltender in Tyler Read for the Flames.  The Outlaws opened the scoring with a nice goal from CJ Lillies who received a beautiful pass from Kyle Raymond.  The Flames would get a lucky goal in the late stages of the opening frame from Jake Holland.  Holland worked hard at the side of the net and in doing so, put the net off its moorings and then the puck crossed the line.  Much to the dislike of the Mission City coaching staff, the referee did not see the net off its pegs and allowed the goal to stand.  The Flames would get the eventual game winning goal early in the 2nd period on a wrist shot about halfway out from Michael Bell.  The Outlaws would try everything they could to get even but time was a factor as it ran out on the Outlaws in this one and they fell by a final score of 2-1.

On Saturday night the Mission City Outlaws paid their final visit of the season to the Sungod Arena in North Delta to take on the Devils.  It was also the final game of the season and the Devils had a 3 win strangle hold in the season series.  The Outlaws came into the game sitting 5 points ahead of the Port Moody Panthers for the 4th and final playoff spot in the Harold Brittain Conference.  The Outlaws would find themselves in the same type of scenario with the Devils as they did with the Flames on Thursday.  Down by a goal with 5 minutes to go, the Outlaws finally had some puck luck go their way.  Cam Bertsch was able to tie the game up and just when we all thought the game was going to head to OT, a pressure play from the Devils’ Brett Mackey resulted in an unfortunate goal, from an Outlaws perspective, for North Delta as they took the lead back.  Mission City would pull goaltender Bryce Phenix late in the period for the extra attacker but North Delta was able to stave off the big push from the Outlaws and hold on for a 3-2 win.  The result of this game gave the North Delta Devils the season sweep and to add insult to injury, the Port Moody Panthers picked up a win on Saturday so they now close the point gap to 3 points for that final playoff spot.

The Outlaws will have 2 HUGE divisional games this coming week when they host the Abbotsford Pilots on Thursday night at the MLC and then wrap up the week with an even bigger tilt with the Port Moody Panthers in Port Moody.  Coverage of both games can be found on FastHockey.com PPV or on our FREE audio channel at MixLR.com.

As for now you’re up to date.  See you at the rink.
