The way the up and down week ended for the Mission City Outlaws was nothing less than extraordinary when describing how it feels to win your way back into the playoff picture.
The week started with a tilt with the Abbotsford Pilots at the Mission Leisure Centre and the Outlaws knew what they had ahead of them in the form of effort that was needed from their club. After a not so good 1st period which saw Mission City trailing 3-1, the team did pick up their socks for the final 2 frames but once again they ran into a hot goaltender at the other end. The Pilots would add an empty netter to make it a final score of 4-1. The Outlaws threw everything they could at the Pilots in this game but Abbotsford is one of the deepest teams in the PJHL as they come out with a victory.
There were a lot of nerves going into the game on Saturday evening for the Mission City Outlaws as they were in action against the very team that were leading them in the standings, the Port Moody Panthers. A big 2 points were up for grabs and even though the playoff picture would not be 100% clear at the end of this game, the damage to morale may be scarred. After the Outlaws jumped out to a quick 2-0 score, they quickly saw that erased as the Panthers stormed back to tie things up before periods end. the 2nd period would see lots of good quality scoring chances from both hockey clubs and you just got this playoff type atmosphere filling the arena in Port Moody as the period ended. The 3rd period started like the first 2 as the Outlaws saw themselves with most of the pressure but couldn’t capitalize on their chances and the Panthers took the lead for the first time in the game. Just when you had the feeling that the well may have been dry for the scoring from the Mission City Outlaws they get 2 quick goals :19 seconds apart from Nolan Riebalkin and Cam Bertsch to give the Outlaws a 4-3 lead. The Outlaws would score an empty netter from CJ Lillies to put the final touches on this game and Mission City find themselves back in the playoff picture as they sit in 4th in the Conference.
It will be another 2 game week for the Outlaws as they will take part in 2 divisional match ups when the Aldergrove Kodiaks come to the MLC and then Mission City will wrap up the week’s worth of games against the Abbotsford Pilots on Friday night at the MSA Arena.
With 5 games left in the regular season, an effort like last week will be needed from the team. Should be very interesting and exciting to see what happens. Stay tuned.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
