Quite possibly a preview of the first round playoff match up between the Aldergrove Kodiaks and the Mission City Outlaws will take place tonight at the Mission Leisure Centre.
The Outlaws and the Kodiaks have had their battles this season with the season series sitting at a record of 3-1-1 in favour of Aldergrove but don’t let this statistic fool you. The Outlaws have been in every game this season against the Kodiaks and will be looking to ride the high from last Saturdays victory over the Port Moody Panthers into this one.
The Outlaws continue to struggle on the man advantage as they are now 0 for 28 going back 8 games when they faced the Ridge Meadows Flames on January 3rd where Dylan Kooner was the man to get a power play goal against the Flames. Mission City has surrendered 40 power plays to their opponents since that game as well but have only been burned 11 times during that time with 4 of those 11 goals against were from the Aldergrove Kodiaks the last time these teams met at the Aldergrove Community Arena. Special teams were a big influence during that loss and the team knows what’s expected from them against the top team in the league.
Who to watch for:
Mission City – Dylan Kooner – Kooner had a very special night last Saturday registering 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points against the Panthers and earned himself 1st star honours. Outlaws will be looking for him to keep this up to help take his team to the post season.
Aldergrove – Josh Cronin – The highly skilled defenceman has been used in all situations during the season. The Kodiaks use Cronin to kill penalties and like to keep him on first line power play unit to utilize his strong shot from the point.
Now that the Outlaws have worked their way back into the playoff picture, the work load is still not over. With just 5 games remaining in the regular season, the coaching staff wants to keep seeing the good work ethic the rest of the way and tonight will be a good measuring stick against Aldergrove.
Should be a great tilt between 2 teams that on the ice have quite the heated rivalry going and the Kodiaks will be coming into the game riding a high from last night when they handed the Richmond Sockeyes their first loss in 16 games. The puck drops at 7:15 PM and as always you can watch all the action on FastHockey.com PPV or listen for FREE at MixLR.com beginning with the pre game show at 7:05 PM.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
