PreSeason: Outlaws vs. Princeton Posse

It was a reunion of sorts for the Mission City Outlaws on Friday night when the team made the return to the old stomping grounds of the Hope Icebreakers at the Hope Arena to take on the Princeton Posse in Preseason action.

The Outlaws were sporting the old Hope Icebreakers jersey for this one night only event.  The new players trying to make the squad were looking to impress the coaching staff and Mission City had a lot of young new talent in the line up.  12 players were away at Junior A camps and WHL camps so this gave a great opportunity for some of the new Outlaws to get in some real game action.

The Posse would open up the scoring as they were able to squeak one past goaltender Bryce Phenix for the 1-0 lead and that is how the first period would end.  In the second, Mission City would find themselves in some penalty trouble early on and the Princeton Posse would add to their total making it 2-0.  Then with just 5 minutes remaining in the middle frame, Bryce Pisiak would riffle one top shelf with a laser of a shot to narrow the gap to 2-1 after 2 periods.  The final frame would start with the Outlaws needing to dig deep and try to solve the strong goaltending of the Posse but more penalty trouble would hamper the come back for the Mission City Outlaws and this game would end in a Final score of 2-1.

All in all, the Outlaws showed some promise but also took way too many untimely penalties that the coaching staff will be looking for some of these guys to change going into the next exhibition game against the Langley Knights this coming Thursday in Langley.

The buzz around the arena in Hope was a very positive one and the Fans were treated to quite the night of exciting action and by all accounts this sounds like this will be a yearly occurrence which will be announced when more details come about.

I had a chance to speak with Head Coach Brad Veitch following the game:

Just a reminder that the next preseason game for the Outlaws is Thursday Sept.4, 2014 at the George Preston Recreation Centre in Langley to take on the Knights with a puck drop at 7 PM.

As for now you’re up to date.  See you at the rink.
