Thursday’s first game of the regular season for the Mission City Outlaws may not have been the result the team wanted, but thankfully the Outlaws will not have to wait long to right the ship tonight hosting the defending champion Aldergrove Kodiaks at the Mission Leisure Centre.
It won’t be an easy task as the Kodiaks have a knack for putting solid players on the ice each and every game. Aldergrove will also be a pretty hungry hockey club as they dropped their home opener 3-2 to the Abbotsford Pilots in double overtime. This is something the Outlaws have definitely recognized.
A few mental breakdowns in the 3rd period for the Outlaws was a huge factor in the 7-4 loss to the Langley Knights and one can be sure that those errors have been addressed by the coaching staff. The silver lining is that it’s only one game and now there are 43 to go so I don’t have the panic button pushed yet.
This will mark the first meeting between the Kodiaks and the Outlaws since Aldergrove ended the season for Mission City in 4 straight games in the Harold Brittain Conference Semi Finals. There are plenty of returning players on this Outlaws squad that will have a little more fuel for the fire so to speak.
Who to watch for:
Mission City – David McGowan – McGowan seems to have picked up right where he left off last season. His good eye and ability to read the play well helped him notch a goal and assist in the first game.
Aldergrove – Quincy Leroux – One of the more noticeable Kodiaks from last season was Leroux. His good puck moving skills opens the ice and provides more offensive push for the Aldergrove Hockey Club.
Tonight marks the 3rd home opener since the team changed their name to the Outlaws and this season is going to be one for the ages.
Come on out tonight for all the festivities at the Mission Leisure Centre as there will be a tailgate party to kick things off beginning at 4 PM. Come and meet this years Mission City Outlaws players and staff plus there will be hot dogs and pop for purchase.
