It was a week of highs and lows for the Mission City Outlaws as the team took on the Abbotsford Pilots and the Grandview Steelers in week 2 of the regular season. One thing is for sure, the Outlaws will have no shortage of things to discuss and work on at practice in preparation of the coming weeks games.
Friday night the Outlaws made the short trip to the MSA Arena in Abbotsford to take on the rival Pilots in search of their first win of the season.
It took a little while to get the scoring started, but when it did, the Outlaws really opened the flood gates and goals came in bunches for the Mission City hockey club. 9 different players had a multiple point game in an 8-1 victory. Outworking the opposition and winning the puck battles were the highlight for the Outlaws.
On Saturday, the Outlaws hosted the Grandview Steelers at the Mission Leisure Centre. The Steelers were coming off a hard fought double overtime win last Sunday and were looking to keep the momentum going forward against Mission City. The game was pretty close in the opening 20 minutes but bounces were not in the favour of the hometown team as Grandview struck first.
In the second, Mission City would tie things up on a goal from Bryce Pisiak but some untimely penalties would create not one but two 5 on 3 opportunities for the Steelers and they made no mistake. Going 3 for 8 on the power play and handing the Outlaws a 5-2 loss.
On the bright side this week was the play of Bryce Phenix. The Mission City goaltender made the saves he needed to make against Abbotsford on Friday night and Phenix tried his best to keep the game on Saturday from being a complete blowout making outstanding key saves when called upon.
Kyle Lennea had a good week as well as he recorded 3 goals in 2 games for the Outlaws. Nice to see a guy come back from injury last year and really pick up his game in the off season to take strides to help his club win games.
It will be a pretty busy week for the Outlaws as they will play 3 games this coming week. Wednesday will be a rare home game for Mission City when they host the North Vancouver Wolf Pack at the Mission Leisure Centre with a 7 PM face off. The rest of the week’s schedule is as follows. Friday night the Outlaws will take on the Ridge Meadows Flames for the first time this season at the Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge at 7:30 PM and then will wrap up week 3 at home against the 2013/14 runner up Richmond Sockeyes at 6:45 PM at the Mission Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Remember all the games will be available for FREE on our audio only channel at MixLR.com and on pay per view at Fasthockey.com.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
