The Mission City Outlaws extended their winning streak to 3 games this week with a win over the Port Moody Panthers in a rare Monday night affair at the Port Moody Arena.
The Outlaws came into the game on a high as they had recorded a shut out victory over the Ridge Meadows Flames last Saturday. The team came out very flat in the 1st period but were able to escape the opening frame in a scoreless tie. Then the game really opened up for Mission City as they were able to get on the board first and didn’t look back as they were able to capitalize twice on the power play and cruise to a 5-1 victory and leap frog the Ridge Meadows Flames into the final playoff spot in the Harold Brittain Conference.
Saturday, the Outlaws were looking to extend their winning streak to 4 games and the only thing standing in their way was the Aldergrove Kodiaks who themselves were winners of 2 straight coming into the contest.
The Kodiaks got a big boost to the front end this week when veterans Scott and Spencer McHaffie returned back to the club after a brief stint in Junior A in California and it has been just what the doctor ordered for a club that was needing to get rolling in the standings. The twins logged lots of minutes for Aldergrove in the game and they were able to add a little more extra offensive pressure that really put the Outlaws on their heals in the first period.
The Outlaws quickly found themselves down by 3 goals and were forced to call a timeout early in the game.to settle things down. Mission City was able to get on the board late in the opening period when Bryce Pisiak would notch the first of 2 goals in the game.
The Kodiaks were able to capitalize on some bad turnovers from the Outlaws and kept the lead all game as Mission City was never able to take a lead and they were on the receiving end of a 7-4 loss on home ice.
There will be no real rest for a team that is a little banged up as they will take on the Delta Ice Hawks on Tuesday night at the Ladner Leisure Centre. This will mark the 3rd meeting of the season between the 2 clubs.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
