It was the first of 7 exhibition games to be played by the Mission City Outlaws on Saturday night at the Mission Leisure Centre when the Aldergrove Kodiaks came to town.
With both teams dressing about the same amount of veterans and rookies, this was a great opportunity for both coaching staff’s to get a real look at what their teams have to possibly offer this upcoming season.
The first period was a pretty lopsided affair as the Outlaws came out of the gate with a lot of drive and determination as they tried to wow the Outlaws staff. Mission City fired 22 shots towards Goaltender Ben Giesbrecht of the Kodiaks who looked to be in top form and only allowed 1 goal against in the opening frame.
The Outlaws would add to their lead in the 2nd making it 2-0 for the home team. Again the drive to the net from the Outlaws was key to getting on the board.
The Outlaws would complete the shutout performance as they were able to tally 3 more goals in the final frame and cruise to a 5-0 victory.
The play of veteran Kolby Steen was very evident as he lead by example and was rewarded with a multi point evening and 2nd star honors. I had a chance to catch up with Kolby after the game:
All in all even though it is just preseason the Outlaws should be proud of the effort put forward and if they keep that type of play up, it is going to make it very difficult for the coaching staff to make decisions, which is always a nice problem to have.
The preseason schedule continues next Friday August 21 in Maple Ridge against the Ridge Meadows Flames and then wrap up the weekend of games at the MLC against the Flames once again the following night at 6:45 PM.
As for now you’re up to date. See you at the rink.
