Small Blemish for Outlaws in Home Opener

The home opener didn’t exactly go as planned for the Mission City Outlaws on Saturday night at the Mission Leisure Centre when the team welcomed the Langley Knights into the building.

It was a scoreless draw between the 2 clubs after one period of play.  Both teams would exchange goals in the second setting the stage for a wild final frame.

The Knights made quick work on the power play and took a 2-1 lead and then added another with 5:30 remaining in the game.  It was gut check time for the Outlaws who needed to 2 goals of their own and just like they drew it up the Outlaws were able to get goals from Kyle Lennea and Captain David McGowan to force overtime.

On a bad change, the Langley Knights were able to capitalize on the Outlaws miscue and Dylan McCann potted in the overtime winner for the Knights.

Penalties were a problem for the Outlaws as well tonight as they gave up 7 power play chances to the opposition and Langley was able to convert on 2 of those.

The Outlaws welcomed back a key piece to the puzzle when Sammy Zeinab made his way back in the lineup after being sidelined with an injury.  I had a chance to get his thoughts after the game:

Mission City will look to right the ship on Thursday when they make the trip to the Minoru Arena in Richmond to take on the Richmond Sockeyes.  Game time is 7 PM and you can catch all the action on the Outlaws Broadcast Network.

As for now you’re up to date.  See you at the rink.
