If I was to tell you that Saturday nights game at the Mission Leisure Centre was not that exciting with little scoring then I would be telling you a GIANT lie. Fans definitely got their moneys worth.
The opponent for the Mission City Outlaws came in the form of the Aldergrove Kodiaks and after the first 40 minutes the Outlaws found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-1 deficit going into the final frame of regulation.
In the third the Outlaws would come out of the gate with a renewed outlook on how to handle the situation they had gotten themselves into. For the first time in the game, the Outlaws, had the Kodiaks on their heels and Mission City would capitalize taking the lead for the first time with 3 unanswered goals.
In the dying minutes of the 3rd Eric Callegari had a partial breakaway and Michael Sande had no choice but to chop the stick out of the hands of Callegari. Aldergrove was given a penalty shot opportunity and a huge opportunity for Callegari to get his team to tie things up. Callegari made no mistake as he was able to out wait Outlaws goaltender Matt Sawyer to tie things up and send this game to overtime.
The extra frame saw each team trade many chances but in the end it was a beautiful setup from Captain David McGowan on to the stick of Bryce Pisiak out front and Pisiak made no mistake riffling a hard wrist shot past Aldergrove goalie Naythan Lange and giving his team a 5-4 victory on home ice.
Here are some post game comments from Pisiak:
The Outlaws will continue this busy stretch of games as they take on the Port Moody Panthers at the Port Moody Arena on a rare Monday night affair. Game time is 8 PM and as always you can catch all the action on the Outlaws Broadcast Network at mixlr.com/outlawshockey
