Outlaws Extend Win Streak to 4

The Outlaws knew they were in tough against the Abbotsford Pilots on Saturday night at the Mission Leisure Centre when they were looking for their 4 straight win and it took 2 extra periods to find a winner.

It was the first meeting of the season between the Outlaws and the Pilots.  The 1st period saw both teams exchange a handful of scoring chances but the score remained 0-0 after the opening frame.

The penalty kill would not be in the favour of Mission City as Abbotsford was able to capitalize on a power play goal from Alex Methorst who opened the scoring ion the contest.  A short while later the Outlaws would get a much deserved goal from Captain David McGowan tying things up at 1-1.  Before the period would end though, another power play marker for the Pilots and Cole Methorst would put his team ahead going into the final frame of regulation.

In the 3rd, the Outlaws would come out with a little more jump than they had in the previous 2 periods of action and Sammy Zeinab would score a power play of their own to tie things up at 2-2.  Then just 13 seconds later, Michael Sande notched his first PJHL goal when he ripped a hard wrist shot past goaltender Jacob Crawford to take the lead for the first time in the contest.  Hayden Guilderson would score with 1:59 remaining to send this one to overtime.

The first overtime wouldn’t solve anything so the 2 teams would have to try and pick up a victory in double overtime.  That’s when the Outlaws struck.  McGowan was hauled down behind the his own net and whenever there is a penalty assessed in 3 on 3 it is an automatic penalty shot.  McGowan made no mistake as he buried hos chance past Crawford and notching the victory for his hockey club.

The defense core for the Outlaws has been very good this season and one of the players leading by example is Brock Padgham and I had a chance to catch up with him to get his thoughts after the game:

After playing 4 games in the last 7 days, Mission City will get some much deserved rest as the team won’t play another game until Friday night when they pay a visit to the Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge to take on the Ridge Meadows Flames.  Face-off is 7:30 and you can catch all the action once again on the Outlaws Broadcast Network at mixlr.com/outlawshockey.  Pregame show begins at 7:20.

As for now you’re up to date.  See you at the rink.
