With the best team in the Tom Shaw Conference and the best team in the Harold Brittain Conference come together in a match up, something has to give. On Saturday night it was the hometown Mission City Outlaws who were able to pull off an 8th straight victory.
After a strange first period, which saw plenty of give away’s and both teams looked a little sluggish, the Grandview Steelers and the Outlaws would skate to a 2-2 tie after the opening frame.
Things really picked up in the middle frame between the 2 clubs. The physical and offensive play that was displayed by both teams was truly entertaining to say the least. It would be the Outlaws that would capitalize on a 5 on 3 opportunity for the lone goal scored in the 2nd period as Bryce Pisiak gave his team the first lead of the game.
Mission City would really put it into another gear in the 3rd period. Late stages of the period, Brody Dyck would give his team a little breathing room when he was able to break free in front of the Grandview net giving the Outlaws a 4-2 lead. With the Grandview goalie pulled for the extra attacker, Kolby Steen would ice it for Mission City and the Outlaws hand the Steelers their first loss of the season by a final score of 5-2.
Matt Reyes and Ryan Sharma rounded off the scoring for the Outlaws and the Steelers got goals from Lucas Zenone and Christian Bettiol.
Currently, the Outlaws have 4 players atop the scoring leaders in the league. David Mcgowan, Bryce Pisiak, Ryan Sharma and Kolby Steen in that order. Also, Gunner Neilsen leads all goaltenders with the best save percentage at .930%.
Mission City sits 1st overall in the PJHL with a record of 9-1-0-1 for 19 points and 6 points ahead of the 2nd place Aldergrove Kodiaks in the Harold Brittain Conference.
After the game, I got the thoughts from coach Mike Droulliard on the teams success as of late:
A big week in the schedule gets going this Thursday night at the Mission Leisure Centre when the Outlaws host the North Vancouver Wolf Pack. It will be the first meeting of the season between the 2 clubs. Game time is 7:30 PM. Listen for FREE on the Outlaws Broadcast Network at mixlr.com/outlawshockey or watch on Fasthockey.com.
